Wu Chuyue
China

Wu Chuyue is a young designer who is passionate about merging traditional and modern fashion styles. She strongly believes that fashion can serve as a powerful medium for promoting and exploring intangible cultural heritage knowledge. For her final year design project, she focused on the Chinese cultural heritage, drawing inspiration from this rich resource to create innovative and unique textile designs. Through her work, she celebrates and honors this important aspect of Chinese culture.

This collection is about showcasing the beauty of traditional Chinese clothing in a contemporary fashion context. Wu Chuyue, the designer behind the YUNREN spring/summer 2024 collection, aims to preserve cultural heritage in her own unique way while contributing to its protection. One way she does this is by incorporating the art of seal-cutting, a technique historically used in East Asia as a form of one’s personal signature and identity, into her designs.

Wu Chuyue hopes to use her collection to promote and raise the awareness of Chinese cultural heritage and knowledge worldwide amid the declining interest in intangible heritage. By combining traditional cutting techniques with modern materials and tailoring, she creates a symbiotic relationship between culture and fashion.
