PLAGUEDMINDS

Rachael Anissa Putri Lamberte

Indonesia

Rachael Lamberte is a creative who likes to explore the effects of social norms and beauty standards on young adolescents, specifically females. She approaches her photography and visual language with the female gaze, resulting in raw, experimental and provocative visuals.

PLAGUEDMINDS is a publication that consists of four chapters, covering different types of body dysmorphic tendencies. It hopes to shine light on Body Dysmorphia (BDD) through a series of visual images, with the aim of encouraging body positivity amongst young adolescents.

There is an increasing desirability to be thin, beautiful and flawless for women in media. This is even more prominent in the fashion industry. PLAGUEMINDS is a publication which explores the connection between how flaws become intertwined with one’s self-worth that turns into a stigma. By featuring the experiences of four individuals, PLAGUEDMINDS aims to capture the raw essence of body dysmorphia through the lens of fashion, while shining a light on the internal and external struggle of a person living with this disorder.

This project's primary motivation is derived from the fact that this condition is not often talked about correctly as there are many misinterpretations surrounding it, with the majority mistaking this condition as simply being too 'body conscious'. This publication will aim to redirect these expectations.
