Synestudio

Wu Yuyang

China

Shanghai-born artist Wu Yuyang is currently based in Singapore as a BA(Hons) Fashion Media and Industries student at LASALLE College of Arts. She has a strong musical and fine arts background. Her visual vocabulary is positioned within a lineage of abstract expressionism driven by the power and shifting moods and textures of music.

The distance between an artist and a fashion designer could be closer. Synesthesia refers to a neurological condition in which sensory perceptions are conflated, with one sense tripping another. Synestudio seeks to use this condition to bridge the gap between the visual arts, fashion and music.

Conceived by Wu Yuyang, the designer who has a musical disorder called Amusia, where she relates this to the struggle of being unable to express her thoughts and emotions, Synestudio is a multi-disciplinary creative platform and business which embraces Synesthesia to create original visual patterns for digital garments. Through this, Synestudio aims to bring public awareness to the beauty of synesthesa, while enabling the unheard voices of Generation Z in Southeast Asia and China to have an avenue to express art into fashion.
