Coexistence with the Naturalness of Body Traces

Jixuan is a Diploma in Creative Direction for Fashion graduate who is originally from Heilongjiang, China. She has previous work experience in branding, marketing, sales and content creation. Projects from her time at LASALLE College of the Arts include a personal clothing brand named Metology, which revolves around the idea of ‘melting and flowing.’ Jixuan also had the opportunity to work with leading lifestyle and fashion magazine F ZINE for a feature centred on two women with scars, how they see themselves and how they deal with the effects of their scars.
At a time when ‘fair, slim, youthful and flawless’ has become the dominant aesthetic on social media, body anxiety is affecting younger and younger people. This feature takes ‘body scars’ as its starting point, inviting two young Singaporean women with visible scars to document their genuine journey from anxiety to nonchalance. Unlike the slogan-like expressions often associated with the body positivity movement, this project focuses on the more relaxed attitude of 'not caring’. Such an attitude is not about forcing acceptance, nor is it a performance of bravery. It is the everyday state that emerges once emotions have naturally subsided. When perfection is overvalued, not caring is the truest form of confidence.
