Eng Li Wen

Eng Li Wen is an emerging fashion designer whose practice explores the intersection of memory, heritage and contemporary menswear. Born in Malaysia and raised in Singapore, his work critically examines notions of Singaporean identity, questioning what is remembered, what is overlooked and what is lost within everyday narratives. Through research into heritage archives and overlooked histories, he reinterprets intangible references into garments of emotional and cultural significance. With identity being often overlooked, his practice reflects a deeper desire to reconnect with local culture within a contemporary context. By integrating elements of his Southeast Asian heritage into functional everyday garments, Li Wen bridges the past and the present, making cultural memory both wearable and enduring. After he graduates, Li Wen aims to further develop his practice internationally while building a brand that honours craftsmanship, longevity and the stories embedded within garments.

结霜桥 Gek Sng Kio reimagines fashion through the lens of memory, heritage, and the disappearing communal spaces of Singapore. The collection responds to the problem of trend-driven consumerism, which has eroded emotional attachment to clothing and weakened fashion’s connection to local culture and lived experience. Drawing from workwear as a symbol of stability and quiet resilience, the collection merges utilitarian function with narrative craftsmanship, blurring the boundary between garment and memory archive. Influenced by Singapore’s vanishing “third places” like the Sungei Road flea market, the collection's silhouettes, fabric choices and finishes carry the imprint of heritage and everyday labour. Guided by a form-follows-function philosophy, the collection seeks a harmonious balance between practicality and poeticism, resulting in pieces that encourage emotional durability, cultural connection and a renewed appreciation of Singapore’s creative landscape.
