Remnants of the Ephemeral explores the concept of ‘panmnemism’, which posits that all things can express inanimate meaning. Fashion and objects hold memory when they transcend their practical use or aesthetic appeal. At its core, the project centres on Joleen’s maternal grandmother, symbolising a simpler, more comforting time. By curating seemingly insignificant objects, old photographs, and newly created imagery, it seeks to preserve memories and explore themes of material memory, familial bonds, womanhood, and Chinese culture.
