Relationship between Korea and Pine Tree

Republic of Korea

In Korean culture, the pine tree holds deep symbolic meaning, representing strength, perseverance, and eternity. Its evergreen nature, thriving in harsh winters, appears in literature and art, symbolising enduring friendship and a bond with nature. Traditionally, pine trees marked births and graves, symbolising life's continuity and eternal rest. However, modern generations have lost touch with its cultural significance. Despite this, surveys show the pine remains Korea's most beloved tree, revealing a gap between affection and understanding. This highlights the need to restore its cultural and symbolic relevance in contemporary society.

The project revives the pine tree’s cultural essence in Korea, symbolising strength, perseverance, and eternal connections with nature.
